DR Systems to Exhibit Z-Series WebPACS, Zero Download Technology at RSNA

Web-based Clinical Review and Ordering/Scheduling Systems Create Faster, More Convenient Workflows for Physicians

SAN DIEGO – DR Systems, one of the most respected names in healthcare information systems, will be exhibiting its Unity™ Z-Series, zero-download technology at RSNA 2009. With Z-Series, referring physicians with Web access, no longer have to download an application or ActiveX controls before viewing imaging exams and reports or performing ordering and scheduling.

The Z-Series includes two products: Zero Download Ambassador (ZDA) for clinical review and Zero Download Scheduler (ZDS) for scheduling and ordering exams. ZDS is currently available in Unity Release 8 and ZDA will be available in Unity Release 9 in the second quarter of 2010.

“The Z-Series is yet another innovation of DR Systems’ Web-based enterprise imaging solutions,” said Richard Porritt, the company’s President and CEO. “The healthcare provider world has been demanding interoperability.  Z-series delivers; imaging reports from DR Systems can be accessed by your HIS, EMR, or PHR, via a simple hyperlink to access the patient’s images, documents, and associated audio.  Viewing on the Web requires no other interface or download.  This makes access to confidential imaging records secure and available anywhere with far less support needs. It’s been a dream of the healthcare industry for more than 30 years, and we feel it’s finally been achieved.”

Z-Series has been designed to deliver a uniquely high level of functionality in a zero-download, Web-based environment. Both ZDA and ZDS eliminate the need for IT support and the need to download applets at different locations -- a benefit for referring physicians and specialists who work in various, disparate IT environments. Both systems also create a more efficient workflow for doctors.

Specific advantages of ZDA include:
  •  Access viaWindows, Linux or Mac OS
  • Quick, easy, secure access to patient image exams from other hospitals
  • Ability to listen to audio reports and view text reports

The RIS-based ZDS enables physicians to order or schedule future exams from remote locations quickly while the patient is still in their office. Alternatively, physicians can use the ZDS to provide an imaging facility with the patient’s order information so the facility can contact the patient via phone or e-mail to schedule an exam. Among other benefits:
  • The ZDS checks availability across multiple sites, facilities, and resources to offer the next available appointments.
  • Scheduling notes and exam preparation information guide the scheduler in selecting the proper procedure and appointment time.
  • Insurance authorization tools enable recording and tracking of insurance authorization/pre-certification numbers.
  • Optional Medical Necessity checking for the local Medicare region helps insure accurate coding for optimum reimbursement.

The Z-Series works independently of the computer operating system. It also works with the most widely adopted Web browsers.

Live demonstrations of the Unity Z-Series WebPACS can be seen in the DR Systems booth at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), Nov. 29 – Dec. 4 at McCormick Place in Chicago. The DR Systems booth is #6229, in the South Building, Hall A.
