DR Systems to Exhibit Enhanced EMR, Mammography, RIS Capabilities at RSNA

SAN DIEGO - October 20, 2005 At RSNA 2005, DR Systems will be exhibiting the company’s unified RIS/PACS platform with enhanced EMR integration, mammography PACS capabilities, along with improved RIS features.  These improvements and others are part of the company’s next software release, version 8.

Rated #1 by MD Buyline and #3 by KLAS, DR Systems, the leading independent provider of RIS/PACS solutions, will be at RSNA Booth 2751 in the South Building, Hall A in McCormick Place, Chicago from Nov. 27 to Dec. 1. The RSNA 2005 Conference will be held Nov. 26 to Dec. 2 in Chicago.

New aspects of Release 8 will include:

  • Extended scalability with the capacity for at least one million immediate online records, as well as millions more records available within seconds.
  • Enhanced patient management tools for the RIS, including web-based scheduling for referring doctors, patient tracking, output to billing systems, film tracking and new management reports.
  • Full integration of mammography PACS capabilities with new diagnostic reading tools.
  • New WebLaunch, for easy single sign-on integration capability with other HIS’s or EMR’s.  Caregivers can log-on to their HIS to access a patient’s record and launch images with appropriate documents, notes and hear an audio summary.
  • Connectivity features for participation in RHIOs (Regional Health Information Organizations).
  • Expanded web-based capabilities through Web Dominator™ for complete remote reading, montage creation, and transcription.
  • Improved integration of Barco’s VOXAR®, Vital Images Vitrea® 2, Orthocrat’s TraumaCad™, MRS® QAPlus™ and other third-party products.
  • Enhanced DICOM and IHE support, including participation in the IHE Portable Data for Imaging Demonstration.

DR Systems technology also includes new, patent-pending mammography tools, such as Image Shuffling™ and Pixel Tracking™, which the company believes will fundamentally shift the paradigm for soft-copy mammography review.

Windows XP-based Release 8 uses “Smart Client” technology that combines web-based and client-server functionality.  Release 8 will be available in the U.S. in 2006.

The company has announced additional, single sign-on capability with third-party EMR’s, such as McKesson’s HorizonWP® Physician Portal.  This adds to the many interfaces the company has already created with third-party HIS and RIS vendors, using HL7, DICOM, and CCOW industry standards.

DR Systems technology is designed for easy deployment, maintenance and monitoring throughout a large healthcare enterprise, and can also be scaled to a single-modality imaging center.

“Our mission is to enhance the clinical and financial success of our customers, while offering the lowest overall cost of ownership in the industry” said Murray Reicher, M.D., chairman and cofounder of DR Systems.  “With Version 8, we are taking another step in integrating medical imaging with the EMR and establishing even greater scalability, easier maintenance, and even better security for our customers.

“In terms of the low cost of ownership, many long-term sites report that their total expense per exam for all service, support, equipment, upgrades, and expansions -- minus the depreciated value of the existing hardware – ranges from $1.20 to $3.50 per exam. Those figures are as little as 10% of what most non-DR System sites are spending, through multiple vendors.”

DR Systems was rated the #1 PACS vendor by MD Buyline in its October 2005 Intelligence Report; ranked #2 by KLAS in the 2004 Top 20 Year-End Best in KLAS Community Clinical and Ancillary Solutions Report, and ranked #3 in the 2004 Top 20 Year-End Best in KLAS Acute Care Report.
