DR Systems’ RSNA Booth to Feature Industry-Leading 64-Bit Workstations,
CHICAGO – November 20, 2006 Activities at the DR Systems booth at RSNA 2006 will include:
- Demonstrations of the capabilities of the company's Unity™ RIS/PACS workstations running the latest Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition on industry-leading Dual-Core Intel® XEON® 64-bit Processors.
- Discussion of DR Systems' data migration capabilities by Jim Sheperd, M.D., who helped oversee a large data migration project at a hospital in Washington state; and
- Presentations by Murray Reicher, M.D. and Michael Trambert, M.D., on enhancing efficiency and integrating mammography with a RIS/PACS, respectively.
DR Systems, the leading independent provider of RIS/PACS solutions, will be exhibiting at Booth #1919 in the South Building, Hall A in McCormick Place in Chicago. RSNA 2006 will be held Nov. 26 through Dec. 1.
The Intel processors used in DR Systems technology are the latest generation solution from the chipmaker. They provide increased processing power for reading large image sets and 3-D imaging on PACS.
The increased use of 64-slice CT scanners and similar digital imaging modalities creates massive data sets. They in turn require more robust processing power to be read and manipulated efficiently. The combination of the 64-bit Microsoft operating system and Intel processors running the DR application delivers unprecedented speed and capability to handle large exam workloads that include these modalities.
The Intel processors are used in DR's Dominator™ workstation for radiologists and also in the Catapult™ technologist QC workstation. The Dominator and Catapult are among the first RIS/PACS workstations to incorporate both 64-bit technologies.
The DR Systems booth will also feature Jim Sheperd, M.D., Diagnostic Imaging Director at Olympic Medical Center (OMC), of Port Angeles, Wash. Dr. Shepherd will be available to discuss OMC's experience with migrating data from the hospital's legacy PACS to a new PACS by DR Systems.
The OMC project involved the transfer of roughly 36,000 exams, about one year's total. The data migration was completed with unusual speed and ease, taking only about three weeks. From the first day the DR Systems PACS went live, all of the prior exam data was available online.
The presentations by Drs. Reicher and Trambert will be held at the DR Systems booth. Dr. Reicher will be delivering three talks: "Enhancing Medical Imaging Quality and Efficiency," "Introduction to DR Systems and Unity RIS/PACS," and "What's New at DR Systems – The Latest Enhancements and Works in Progress." Dr. Trambert's presentation is entitled “Integrating Mammography to an Enterprise RIS/PACS.”
Dr. Reicher's presentations will take place every day from November 26 to November 30. Dr. Trambert will speak every day from November 26 to November 29.
Dr. Reicher is the chairman and cofounder of DR Systems. Dr. Trambert is lead radiologist for PACS reengineering at Cottage Health System and the Sansum-Santa Barbara Medical Foundation Clinic, in Santa Barbara, Calif.
The Unity RIS/PACS is DR System's latest RIS/PACS platform. Unity covers the entire medical imaging exam workflow process. As with previous DR Systems RIS/PACS, it also offers features that go beyond traditional RIS/PACS capabilities.
Notable features of the Unity RIS/PACS include:
- Enhanced Web-based scheduling capabilities
- RIS workflow management including patient pre-authorization, patient flow tracking, film tracking, and task management
- Enhanced transcription capabilities including Web-based transcription
- Improved PACS access from EMRs and HIS Web portals
DR Systems was recently recognized as the leading PACS vendor by KLAS® in its PACS-Acute Care 2006 Report. The company was rated ahead of all other PACS providers including McKesson, GE Medical Systems, Siemens, Philips, and Amicas.
DR Systems has been rated the #1 PACS vendor for six consecutive quarters by MD Buyline, most recently in their January 2006 Intelligence Report.
MD Buyline also reported that the average "street price" for a DR Systems picture archiving and communications system (PACS) was typically less than that charged by many PACS vendors, including Dynamic Imaging, GE Clinical Systems, and Philips.
