DR Systems New Contracts Include Two Data Migrations
SAN DIEGO – DR Systems, makers of the Unity™ RIS/PACS, today announced four new contracts, including two data migrations from legacy PACS, totaling almost $1.57 million. The four facilities are:
- Hillsdale Community Health Center
- Salem Clinic, P.C.
- Contemporary Imaging Associates
- Advanced Radiology Imaging Associates
The largest contract was for nearly $544,000, with the smallest at about $154,000.
“Had these new customers selected a PACS from a different company, they would probably have to maintain five or more different systems and interfaces and deal with five different vendors,” said Rick Porritt, President and CEO of DR Systems.
“In addition to the complexities of managing all that, they would also have a PACS that cost more and did less than the one they got from DR Systems,” Porritt said. “We provided them one unified system that will be a lasting solution -- while raising their profitability and simplifying their tech support.”
Data migrations from legacy PACS are a part of Hillsdale Community Health Center and Contemporary Imaging Associates contracts. The legacy PACS at Hillsdale is from Kodak. At Contemporary Imaging, the legacy PACS was a homegrown system.
Data migration involves the transfer of historical exams from a previously used PACS onto a newly acquired PACS. The migration of radiological images can be particularly complex because of the size of image files. The size of the archive to be migrated generally encompasses tens of terabytes, and commonly takes from several months to more than a year to transfer from one PACS to the other. Complications can arise if the PACS systems cannot “talk to each other” easily, for reasons such as use by one or both vendors of non-standard or proprietary data storage schemes.
DR Systems uses sophisticated software tools, overseen by in-house experts, to execute data migrations. Many other vendors, by comparison, require manual manipulation of the data and file transfers facilitated by a 3rd party contractor. DR Systems’ approach dramatically reduces the time required for a migration, saves money, and minimizes human errors. For example, one migration managed by DR Systems took just three weeks and encompassed 36,000 exams.
