DR Systems Introduces Orthopedic Template Software Option for PACS

SAN DIEGO - May 23, 2005 DR Systems, Inc., a leading RIS/PACS provider announced today the introduction of TraumaCad as the company’s orthopedic template software option.  TraumaCad provides surgeons with digital images, tools and templates for planning a full range of orthopedic surgeries, offering an easier and more accurate alternative to traditional preoperative planning using hard copy film and overlays. Integrating with DR Systems PACS, TraumaCad displays images from a full range of modalities. It enables preoperative plans to be archived with patient files and viewed in the operating room.

“Similar to the DR Systems RIS/PACS user interface, the TraumaCad user interface is very easy to use,” said Kent Curtis, Chief Operating Officer of DR Systems. “The TraumaCad software supports easy updates of orthopedic device templates and has robust DICOM protocol support.  These factors facilitated the rapid and successful completion of the TraumaCad clinical trials at our customer beta test sites.”

With a complete library of implants and fixation element templates from most leading manufacturers, TraumaCad streamlines comparison of templates to digital patient images to enable selection of the best surgical option. TraumaCad automatically displays implants to scale with patient anatomical images. Using a simple wizard-like process, surgeons are guided through all pre-surgical planning steps. Using the advanced software, surgeons can enter the operating room equipped with the specific tools, instruments and implants they need, shortening procedure time.

“TraumaCad is part of DR System’s on-going effort to provide our customers with a broad range of clinical solutions in a single system that allows them to manage medical images and associated information,” said Richard Porritt, President and CEO of DR Systems. “TraumaCad fits our vision for an orthopedic template solution that is tailored to our customer’s needs and is affordable.”

Scaleable and Web-based, TraumaCad turns any PC into a full-featured diagnostic workstation, delivering affordable enterprise-wide access to images and surgical plans. It is compatible with CR, DR, CT, MRI modalities. Among the supported implant manufacturers are Biomet, Depuy, Smith and Nephew, Stryker, Wright and Zimmer.
