DR Systems Delivers PACS to Halifax Medical Center

$5 million contract is the company’s 25th MEDITECH installation

SAN DIEGO - March 10, 2005 DR Systems announced today that the company has signed a contract worth more than $5 million for installation and maintenance of a PACS at the 764-bed Halifax Medical Center (HMC) in Daytona Beach, Fla. The PACS will auto-launch from Halifax’s existing MEDITECH Health Care Information System (HCIS) and radiology information system (RIS). Under the five-year agreement, DR Systems will provide a complete PACS, including workflow efficiency enhancements such as single sign-on capability, a comprehensive disaster recovery system, voice recognition, digital dictation, transcription, automated report distribution over the Web, and document scanning.

“HMC radiologists read more than 200,000 studies per year, so the right selection of a PACS vendor was critical for us,”said Bill Kazee, Halifax PACS Administrator. “DR Systems PACS gave us the breadth of capabilities and a depth of experience in developing MEDITECH interfaces that we couldn’t find anywhere else. Our radiologists are pleased with the DR Systems choice because of the connectivity we can achieve with local outpatient imaging centers.”

“Halifax will be combining the superior functionality, ease-of-use, and cost savings of our PACS with MEDITECH’s industry-leading system,” said Rick Porritt, DR Systems CEO. “Halifax is benefiting from the two companies’ near-decade-long history of successfully interfacing with each other’s systems, which is the longest such track record in healthcare.”

“The DR Systems PACS works seamlessly with our advanced clinical system,” said Hoda Sayed-Friel, vice president of marketing for MEDITECH. “Our companies have similar goals of improving operations, workflow, and efficiency, while facilitating the highest-quality and safest patient care. Our systems operate as extensions of each other, both technically and with regards to their ultimate objectives.”

Halifax will become the 25th site at which DR Systems has interfaced its technology with MEDITECH. Other hospitals that utilize a DR Systems PACS interfaced with MEDITECH include Kalispell Regional Hospital (Kalispell, MT), Howard County General Hospital (Columbia, MD), Beaufort Memorial Hospital (Beaufort, SC), Merle West Medical Center (Klamath Falls, OR), and Williamson Medical Center (Franklin, TN).
