At SIIM, DR Systems to Exhibit Latest Software with Advanced System Capabilities

SAN DIEGO – DR Systems will be exhibiting the new Release 8.2 software for its Unity™ RIS/PACS platform at SIIM 2009. The company will be highlighting:
1) Access via enterprise-based and physician office EMRs,
2) DICOM Structured Reports,
3) Critical Results Tracking, and
4) Peer Review

DR Systems, the leading independent provider of RIS/PACS solutions, will be at Booth 819 in the exhibit hall from Thursday, June 4 to Sunday, June 7. SIIM 2009 will be held June 4-7 in Charlotte, N.C.

Key strengths of the new Release 8.2 for the Unity RIS/PACS are its advances in interoperability and distributed radiology architecture.

In the coming new environment of global, purely distributed radiology enterprises, diagnosticians’ physical location will be relatively unimportant.  More significant will be their ability to access geographically distributed images and reports from wherever they are – a hospital, their office, their home, or a Web-connected location while traveling.

DR Systems’ approach to distributed radiology architecture takes advantage of advances in industry standards such as DICOM, broadband communication and open source software. The company’s technology enables comprehensive radiology workflow and flexible routing of diagnostic images and patient information throughout the distributed enterprise.

New application capabilities in Release 8.2 include:
• Unity access via enterprise-based and physician office EMRs (electronic medical record). Accessing through a Web browser to the EMR allows for clinical review of exam reports, images, and voice clips along with other patient information.

• DICOM Structured Reports: Automatically captures DICOM data such as ultrasound measurements from the modality and transfers it to the exam report, increasing the radiologist's accuracy and saving time for the technologist.

• Critical Results: Tracks critical values and tests. Audits timeliness of reporting results to responsible caregivers.

• Peer Review: Evaluates prior exam reports and diagnoses completed by other physicians in the practice. Helps facilitate better quality interpretations by educating reading physicians.

• Multiple Volume Support. This capability provides greater system scalability while increasing data safety, configuration flexibility, and system availability.

• Enhanced Sentinel Capabilities: Sentinel monitors the real-time performance of the RIS/PACS application as well as workflow activities. Among several other new capabilities, Sentinel can be used to send e-mail alerts when the status of the site changes.

Finally, DR Systems will be exhibiting the Unity CS Series Software modules at SIIM 2009.  The Unity CS Series provides healthcare providers with the ability to use the full range of Unity RIS/PACS software features on client-supplied hardware.
