DHIMS 2008 will begin with a day-long PACS Primer that will cover the ABC's of implementing a digital environment and the impact the digital environment will have on the workflow and productivity of radiologists, technologists, PACS Administrators and referring physicians. The balance of the conference will discuss solutions to problems that impact radiology's ability to provide essential healthcare information efficiently to healthcare professionals throughout the digital healthcare environment. The following will be featured:

  • Availability and accessibility
  • Interoperability of clinical applications
  • Productivity Enhancements
  • Change management
  • Communications
  • Storage management
  • Maintaining DHIMS
  • Security, privacy and risk management
  • Economics of DHIMS

In addition to the above, technology updates will be presented on workstations, CR and DR, digital mammography, handling large data sets and optimizing the display of information. Based on the popularity of the “Ask the Experts” panels held at PACS 2007, DHIMS 2008 will feature 8 panels allowing attendees to question our nationally-recognized faculty on the various problem areas. The faculty will present both positive and negative experiences of operating in a digital environment. Attendees will have "hands-on" opportunities of working with and viewing the technical offerings of exhibitors.  Side-by-side comparisons of workstations, monitors, products and services is a great way to see that many offerings may look similar but the impact of workflow, productivity and intuitiveness of the applications may be quite different.

INTRODUCTION:
The recent federal Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) further accelerates the longstanding consumer demand for ever increasing healthcare, yet greater cost controls.  In contrast, healthcare workers demand higher pay and better working conditions.  The result:  a medical imaging and hospital industry in crisis, squeezed between demands for increased quality/safety, lower revenues per procedure, and higher personnel costs.
